Congratulations to Cllr Syeda Khatun (MBE) who was recently sworn in as Mayor of Sandwell Council.  Cllr Khatun is the first Muslim woman to hold the office of Mayor in Sandwell and we are so very proud that she is the ‘First citizen of Sandwell’!  Syeda is CEO of the Bangladeshi Women’s Association based in Tipton, and a founder member of Sandwell Consortium CIC in 2011. She has been active as a community and youth worker in Tipton for 30 years and in 1999 became the first Bangladeshi woman elected as a local councillor in the Midlands region. We are delighted to see her step into her new role this year as the Mayor of Sandwell.
