Understanding how residents engage with healthcare research: Community study by Sandwell Consortium

We have published the findings of our study into how minority communities in Sandwell understand and engage with healthcare research. This study was commissioned by Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust to help them understand the reasons that might prevent some patients and residents taking part in research.

107 residents took part in focus groups in 11 community centres, with a particular focus on groups who are currently under-represented in the Trust’s surveys and studies. Research participants represented Sandwell’s diverse population, with residents from 14 ethnicities and with 12 different first languages taking part in the study.  The findings will inform how the Trust approaches and carries out its research, to support engagement from across the population groups it serves.
