A lifetime of inspiration!

Posted on 19 June 2024

We are delighted and proud that our very own Davinder Kaur has been shortlisted for a Community Inspiration Award 2024, in the Lifetime Achievement category.  This is hugely deserved, not only for her longstanding leadership and dedication as CEO of SWEDA and Director/Chair of Sandwell Consortium; but also for her commitment to using her own professional expertise to support employment and enterprise for residents in Sandwell, over much of her working life.

For 35 years, Davinder has supported employment and enterprise services for Sandwell residents. As a founder member of SWEDA (Sandwell Women’s Enterprise Development Agency) in 1989, which later became the Skills, Work & Enterprise Development Agency, she served as a director before becoming CEO for over 15 years. Drawing on her commercial sector experience in the UK and Europe, Davinder helped overcome barriers for women starting enterprises and expanded SWEDA’s services to all residents. She has secured significant funding, aiding thousands to find work and set up businesses. Additionally, in 2011, she co-founded Sandwell Consortium CIC to unify community organisations and enhance service provision for disadvantaged residents. Davinder continues to drive both organisations and serves on the boards of other community groups, prioritising residents’ needs and ensuring their voices are heard.
